Grandpa's Fruit Bars Recipe

  2. In small bowl combine raisins, dates and liqueur.

  4. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

  6. In large bowl beat butter, both sugars, whole egg, egg white and vanilla till light and fluffy.

  8. Add in cinnamon, nutmeg, orange peel, flour, baking soda till thoroughly blended.
  9. Add in nuts and macerated fruit.
  10. Dough will be sticky.
  11. 5.
  12. Using well floured hands or possibly back of spoon, press dough into foil lined 10 x 15 inch jelly roll pan.
  13. 6.
  14. Mix yolk and the water.
  15. With pastry brush, brush yolk on dough.
  16. 7.
  17. Bake 20-25 min till dough is light golden brown.
  18. Cold 10 min, then cut into 1 x 2 inch squares.
  19. Yields 75 bars.
