Manhattan Cooler I

• 4 ounces claret
• 3 dashes rum
• 2 tablespoons lemon juice
• 1 or 2 teaspoons superfine sugar
• 3 or 4 ice cubes
• Fruit for garnish (optional)

1. Combine all ingredients except the fruit in a highball glass and stir.
2. Garnish with citrus fruit slices, if you like.
