Baked Mostaccioli Recipe
- 1 c. uncooked mostaccioli pasta
- 1/2 lb grnd sirloin
- 2 x sweet Italian sausages, removed from casings
- 2 Tbsp. each of minced onion and green pepper
- 1 x clove garlic, chopped
- 1 c. canned tomatoes, cut up
- 3 ounce tomato paste
- 1/2 c. water
- 1 tsp dry basil leaves
- 1/2 Tbsp. chili pwdr
- 1/2 tsp red pepper
- 1/2 tsp salt and dry oregano dash sugar and black pepper
- 1 x egg, slightly beaten
- 8 ounce ricotta cheese
- 1/4 c. Parmesan cheese
- Cook mostaccioli till al dente in boiling salted water.
- Drain and set aside.
- In skillet, combine meat, sausages, onion, green pepper and garlic.
- cook breaking up meat, till meat is browned.
- Drain off fat.
- To the meat, add in all other ingredients, except egg and cheeses.
- Bring meat sauce to a boil.
- Reduce heat.
- Cover and simmer 15 to 20 min, stirring occasionally.
- meanwhile, combine egg and cheeses.
- To assemble, stir cooked pasta into meat sauce.
- Place half in 1 qt buttered baking dish.
- Spread cheese mix proportionately over the top.
- cover with remaining pasta.
- Bake, covered, at 350 F. for 30 to 35 min or possibly till cooked through.
- Serves 4.
