Beef and Bacon Pie

  1. Heat a large heavy-based saucepan over high heat and cook beef in batches, until browned.
  2. Add the bacon and onion and saute for 3-4 minutes until onion is tender.
  3. Stir in the flour, spices, carrot, potato, parsnip, water, tomato paste and Vegemite*.
  4. Bring to the boil then simmer, covered, for 15 minutes.
  5. Pour into a 2.5 litre baking dish or 6 individual oven-proof ramekins and top with pastry.
  6. Trim the edges, brush with egg yolk and make two small slits in the centre of the pie.
  7. Decorate with pastry cut outs, if desired.
  8. Place pie dish on an oven tray and bake at 200C for 10-15 minutes until lightly browned.
  9. Serve immediately.
