Fried Apple Pies

  1. Cook sugar, cornstarch, lemon juice, cinnamon and nutmeg. Stir in apples until moist.
  2. Cover and cook until tender about 20 minutes; cool at room temperature and refrigerate.
  3. Combine flour, baking powder and salt.
  4. Cut in shortening and gradually add milk.
  5. Make into ball, wrap in plastic paper and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  6. Divide into 16 pieces, make small ball and roll flat into 4-inch circle.
  7. Put a tablespoon of apples in center and moisten edges and press with floured fork.
  8. Heat about 1 1/2-inches oil and fry 2 to 3 pies at a time.
