Lunch Lady Sloppy Joes
- 1/2 whole Large Sweet Onion, Minced Finely
- Bacon Fat Or Olive Oil, For Sauteeing
- 1 clove Garlic, Pressed Through A Garlic Press
- 1 pound Ground Round
- 1- 1/2 teaspoon Chili Powder (I Like Ancho Chili Powder)
- 2 teaspoons Yellow Mustard, Or To Taste
- 1 can (15 Oz. Size) Tomato Sauce
- 1/4 cups Water
- 1 pinch Sugar
- 2 dashes Worcestershire Sauce
- Kosher Salt And Black Pepper To Taste
- 8 sticks Mozzarella String Cheese, At Room Temperature
- 8 whole Hot Dog Buns, Toasted
- Green Onions, For Garnish (optional)
- Saute the onions in bacon fat (or olive oil).
- Once translucent and soft, add the garlic; cook for one minute.
- Add the ground round and cook thoroughly.
- Use a potato masher to break up the meat into small pieces.
- Add the ancho chili powder, mustard, tomato sauce, water and a pinch of sugar to the meat mixture.
- Stir, and then add a few drops of Worcestershire sauce to taste.
- Season with salt and pepper.
- Simmer over medium heat for 10-15 minutes.
- Place the cheese sticks inside the toasted buns and top with the sloppy Joe sauce.
- Sprinkle with green onions or anything else your heart desires and serve!
- The sloppy sauce makes 4 cups so you may have leftovers!
