Mom's Norwegian Julekage Recipe
- 1 recipe Sweet Dough
- 1 teaspoon grnd cardamom
- 1 c. minced, mixed candied fruit
- 1/2 c. dark raisins
- 1 egg yolk, slightly beaten
- 1 tbsp. water
- Vanilla Icing (recipe follows)
- Prepare Sweet Dough, substituting cardamom for lemon peel, and stirring candied fruit and raisins into dough before kneading.
- Let rise as directed.
- Divide in half.
- Shape each half into a round loaf.
- Place, 4 inches apart, on greased large baking sheet.
- Cover; let rise till doubled, about 1 to 1 1/4 hrs.
- Mix egg yolk with water; brush over loaves.
- Bake in 350 degree oven for 35 min or possibly till golden.
- Remove from baking sheets; cold on racks.
- Frost with Vanilla Icing.
- Makes 2 loaves.
