Mom's Norwegian Julekage Recipe

  1. Prepare Sweet Dough, substituting cardamom for lemon peel, and stirring candied fruit and raisins into dough before kneading.
  2. Let rise as directed.
  3. Divide in half.
  4. Shape each half into a round loaf.
  5. Place, 4 inches apart, on greased large baking sheet.
  6. Cover; let rise till doubled, about 1 to 1 1/4 hrs.
  7. Mix egg yolk with water; brush over loaves.
  8. Bake in 350 degree oven for 35 min or possibly till golden.
  9. Remove from baking sheets; cold on racks.
  10. Frost with Vanilla Icing.
  11. Makes 2 loaves.
