Sweet Hambone Soup
- 5 Strips Of Thick Smoked Bacon
- 2 Garlic Cloves, Minced
- 2 cup Chopped Onion
- 10 cup Chicken Broth
- 2 can Crushed Tomatoes, Juice and All
- 1 1/4 lb Meaty Ham Bone
- 1 A Few Big Squirts Of Ketchup
- 3 cup Canned Cannellini Beans, Drained and Rinsed
- 2 cup Chopped Ham (saved from your holiday ham)
- 2 cup Chopped Carrots
- 2 cup Chopped Celery
- 2 cup Cubed Potatoes
- 2 cup Cabbage, Chopped
- 1 cup Brown Sugar, Adding a bit at a time to reach desired sweetness
- 1/8 tsp Ginger Powder
- 1/2 tsp. Dried Mustard
- 2 tsp. salt
- 1 Ground Black Pepper To Taste
- 1 Noodles Of Choice
- Heat a large stock pot on stove.
- Add the bacon and cook until crisp.
- Remove and drain on paper towels.
- Add onions and garlic to pot.
- Saute about 5 minutes.
- Add remaining ingredients, including chopped up bacon.
- Bring to boil.
- Then turn down to simmer about 2-4 hours.
- Remove bone before serving.
- Serve with your favorite noodles (I used small shells) and a nice crusty bread!
