Paper Bag Apple Pie
- 1 (9-inch) unbaked pie shell
- 6 c. tart cooking apples, peeled, cored and sliced
- 1 c. sugar
- 1 tsp. lemon juice
- 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
- 1/8 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
- 1/2 c. firmly packed brown sugar
- 3 Tbsp. butter or margarine
- Prepare pie crust according to recipe or package directions. In a large bowl, toss apples with sugar, 2 tablespoons flour, lemon juice and seasonings until well coated.
- Spoon into pie shell.
- In small bowl, combine 1/2 cup flour and brown sugar.
- Cut in butter with a pastry blender until mixture is crumbly. Sprinkle evenly over apples.
- Place pie in large brown, heavy-duty paper bag.
- Fold open end over twice.
- Seal with large paper clips.
- Preheat oven to 400u0b0.
- Bake 45 to 50 minutes or until topping is golden brown.
