Caramelized Apple And Onion Tart Recipe

  1. Preheat the oven to 425 F.
  2. Combine the flour, thyme and salt.
  3. Using a pastry blender or possibly 2 knives, cut the butter and shortening into the flour mix till it resembles coarse meal.
  4. Add in water, 1 Tbsp at a time, till the dough begins to come together.
  5. Form into disk; refrigeratefor 15 min.
  6. For the filling, in a skillet, heat the butter over medium heat.
  7. Add in the apples, onion, garlic and salt.
  8. Cook, stirring occasionally, till the apples are golden brown, about 15 min.
  9. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to a 12x16 -inch rectangle.
  10. Transfer to a baking sheet.
  11. Spoon the filling onto the shell to within 1 1/2-inches of the edges.
  12. Fold the edges over the filling to create a border.
  13. Bake for 15 to 20 min.
