Smother Salisbury Steak Bites

  1. Season the ground beef chunks with salt, pepper and garlic.
  2. In a skillet on med high heat, sear the ground beef chunks (about 3-4 minutes each side) until the meat has a nice char.
  3. Add the onions to the pan (if using).
  4. Turn the heat to low and cover so that the beef can cook all the way through (about 5-10 minutes depending on thick the chucks are).
  5. While the meat is cooking mix the gravy packet with 1 cup of water.
  6. Set aside the meat.
  7. Remove all drippings except for about 2-3 tablespoons left in the pan.
  8. On medium heat, add the flour and cook until flour turns a light brown color (roux).
  9. Add the gravy and water mixture into pan.
  10. The liquid will start to thicken quickly.
  11. Keep adding water until the gravy reaches your desired consistency.
  12. Season the gravy with additional salt and pepper to taste.
  13. Serve hot with mashed potatoes, rice, and some nice veggies.
