Beans and Ground Beef
- 1 lb very lean ground beef
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 3 large celery, stalks chopped
- 1 minced garlic clove (optional)
- 14 cup packed dark brown sugar
- 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 cup ketchup (I use 3/4 cup)
- 2 (16 ounce) cans pork and beans, undrained (I remove the pork)
- Brown ground beef; drain.
- Add onions, celery, and garlic, stir and cook until vegetables are soft.
- Add Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar and ketchup.
- Cover and simmer for 15 minutes.
- Add beans; stir well.
- Pour into one large or two medium casserole dishes.
- (I make two; freezes well).
- Bake covered at 300 for 30-45 minutes, until bubbling.
- (Freeze after baking, cover and seal well.
- Reheat in microwave or oven).
