Applesauce Walnut Cake with Butter Frosting
- 2 3/4 cups cake flour sifted
- 2 cups sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon cloves
- 1/2 teaspoon allspice
- 1/2 cup vegetable shortening soft
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup walnuts chopped
- 1 1/2 cups applesauce
- 1 each eggs
- 3 cups powdered sugar sifted
- 13 cup vegetable shortening
- 3 teaspoons milk
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- Grease and flour 13x9 inch pan.
- Sift together flour, sugar, baking powder, soda, salt, cinnamon, cloves, and allspice.
- Add shortening, water, and nuts.
- Beat 2 minutes, and add applesauce and egg.
- Beat 2 more minutes.
- Pour into prepared pan.
- Bake in 350F (180C).
- oven for 45 to 50 minutes.
- Frost with White Butter Frosting when cool.
- For the frosting, mix all ingredients together until smooth.
