Oatmeal Bread
- 1 cup raw oats
- 6 cups unsifted all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 fresh yeast cake
- 2 tablespoons shortening
- 12 cup molasses
- 12 cup luke warm water
- 2 cups boiling water
- Pour boiling water over oats, molasses, shortening and salt.
- Cool to lukewarm.
- Dissolve yeast in the 1/2 cup lukewarm water and add to the first mixture.
- Work in all the flour and knead until smooth.
- Place in greased bowl, cover and let rise one hour.
- Divide dough in half, shape loaves and place in greased loaf pans.
- Let rise until doubled in bulk.
- Bake at 350 degrees one hour.
- Makes 2 loaves.
