Chocolate Cherry Squares
- 1 cup flour
- 12 cup packed brown sugar
- 13 cup cold butter
- 12 cup nuts, chopped
- 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
- 12 teaspoon vanilla
- 12 cup sugar
- 13 cup cocoa
- 14 cup milk
- 1 egg
- 12 cup candied cherry, chopped
- candied red cherries, cut in half
- Combine flour, brown sugar, and butter in mixing bowl.
- Blend on low speed to form fine crumbs.
- (2-3 minutes).
- Stir in nuts.
- Reserve 3/4 cup crumb mixture for topping.
- Press remaining crumb mixture into ungreased 9-inch square.
- Bake at 350F for 10 minutes or until lightly browned.
- Meanwhile, combine cream cheese, sugar, cocoa, milk, egg and vanilla in a small bowl.
- Beat until smooth.
- Fold in cherries.
- Spread mixture over warm crust.
- Sprinkle with reserved crumb mixture.
- Garnish with cherry halves.
- Return to oven and continueto bake until lightly browned and filling is set, about 15 minutes.
- Cool.
- Cut into squares.
