Bacon Brittle
- 9 slices OSCAR MAYER Fully Cooked Bacon, cut into 1/4-inch pieces
- 1/2 tsp. ground red pepper (cayenne)
- 1/2 cup pepitas
- 1/4 cup PLANTERS Pecan Pieces
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup light corn syrup
- 1/2 cup water
- Grease baking sheet; set aside.
- Spread bacon onto microwaveable paper towel.
- Microwave on HIGH 1 min.
- Transfer bacon to medium bowl.
- Immediately add pepper; toss to coat.
- Add pepitas and pecans; mix lightly.
- Mix sugar, corn syrup and water in medium saucepan.
- Bring to boil on medium heat, stirring constantly.
- Cover with lid.
- Cook 2 to 3 min.
- or until sugar is dissolved.
- (Do not stir.)
- Remove lid from saucepan.
- Continue boiling sugar mixture 20 min.
- or until mixture reaches hard-crack stage (300 degrees F to 310 degrees F).
- Remove from heat.
- Immediately stir in bacon mixture; pour onto prepared baking sheet.
- Use greased spoon or spatula to spread bacon mixture into even layer; cool completely.
- Break brittle into bite-size pieces.
- Store in tightly covered container at room temperature.
