Grandma C.'S Real Mince Meat Recipe
- 2 lbs. lean beef (or possibly venison) cooked & minced in sm. pcs
- 1 pound suet
- 6 lbs. apple, peeled, cored & minced
- 2 oranges, seedless, finely grate skins & chop pulp
- 2 lbs. currants
- 2 lbs. golden brown raisins
- 4 lbs. dark raisins
- 1/2 pound citron
- 6 c. brown sugar
- 4 c. sweet cider
- 4 tbsp. lemon juice
- 2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 tbsp. each allspice, cinnamon & salt
- 1 teaspoon cloves
- 1 teaspoon ginger
- Mix all together and simmer on low for about 2 hrs.
- Can be packed into Ball jars.
- However, I pack mine after cooling into freezer containers, measuring 1 pie filling into each container.
- This makes sufficient for 20 pies.
