Tropical Fruit with Rum and Lime

  1. Bring water and sugar to simmer in heavy small saucepan over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves.
  2. Simmer syrup 1 minute.
  3. Remove from heat; mix in rum and grenadine, if desired.
  4. Cover syrup and refrigerate until chilled.
  5. (Can be prepared 3 days ahead.)
  6. Arrange mango and banana slices on 2 plates, dividing equally.
  7. Spoon syrup over fruit.
  8. Squeeze 1 lime wedge over each and serve.
