Basic Bread Pudding
- 3 cups stale bread, cut into 1- inch cubes
- 1/2 cup raisins
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 2 cups milk, warm (or you may use half and half)
- 5 eggs beaten
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 pinch salt
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup water
- 2 teaspoons corn syrup
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 cup Kentucky bourbon
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
- 1 small pinch fleur de sel, optional
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
- In a large bowl combine the beaten eggs, cinnamon and cubed bread.
- Pour this into an 8- inch baking dish (or 2 quart baking dish).
- Combine the sugar, vanilla, milk, and salt and pour into the baking dish over the bread cubes.
- Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a knife inserted into the center comes out clean.
