Linda's English Butter Toffee

  1. Combine sugar, butter, corn syrup, and water in a large saucepan.
  2. Heat on medium heat until butter is melted.
  3. Increase heat and bring to a boil and boil for approximately 13 minutes or until 280-290F on a candy thermometer, stirring constantly.
  4. Pour into a buttered 15x10-inch pan which has been sprinkled with the almonds.
  5. Let cool for 5 minutes.
  6. Break chocolate bar into squares and place on top of toffee.
  7. When melted, spead evenly.
  8. Cool completely.
  9. Break into pieces.
