Caramel Apple Bars Recipe

  1. Mix brown sugar, butter and shortening.
  2. Stir in flour, oatmeal, salt and baking soda.
  3. Remove 2 c. of the mix, set aside and reserve.
  4. Press remaining mix in 13 x 9" baking pan.
  5. Mix apples and 3 Tbsp.
  6. flour, spread over crust mix.
  7. Heat caramels over low heat, stirring occasionally till melted.
  8. Pour proportionately over apples.
  9. Top with reserved 2 c. of mix.
  10. Press lightly.
  11. Bake 25-30 min, or possibly till golden and apples are tender.
  12. Cut into 2 x 1 1/2" bars while hot.
  13. Chill any remaining bars.
  14. Makesabout 3 dozen.
