Hot Cross Buns

  1. Add shortening, sugar and salt to milk.
  2. When lukewarm, add yeast cake dissolved in water, spices, well beaten eggs and sufficient flour to make a stiff dough.
  3. Mix well.
  4. Add raisins. Cover and let rise overnight.
  5. In morning, divide into pieces and form into neat buns.
  6. Place on greased pan an inch apart; let rise and brush over with milk or beaten egg.
  7. Bake at 375u0b0 for 25 minutes.
  8. Cool slightly.
  9. Combine 1 cup powdered sugar, 1/4 teaspoon vanilla and enough milk to make drizzling consistency (about 1 1/2 tablespoons).
  10. Drizzle over top of buns.
