Stately Coconut Layer Cake

  1. Cream
  2. shortening;
  3. gradually
  4. add sugar, beating until light and fluffy.
  5. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each. Combine
  6. flour,
  7. baking powder and salt; add to creamed mixture alternately with milk, beginning and ending with flour mixture. Mix
  8. well
  9. after each addition.
  10. Stir in flavorings. Pour batter into 3 greased and floured 9-inch round cake pans. Bake at 375u0b0 for 20 to 25 minutes or until a wooden toothpick comes outtlean. Cool
  11. in
  12. pans for 10 minutes.
  13. Remove from pans
  14. and
  15. let
  16. cool completely.
  17. Spread Lemon-Orange Filling between layers.
  18. Spread top
  19. and
  20. sides
  21. with
  22. Luscious White Frosting and sprinkle with coconut.
  23. Yield: one 3-layer cake.
