Favorite Chocolate Carmel Nut Bars

  1. Heat oven to 350F (180C).
  2. Melt caramels with 13 cup of the milk in heavy saucepan over low heat, stirring frequently until smooth.
  3. Set aside.
  4. Mix remaining milk, cake mix, and margarine or butter in large bowl.
  5. Press 1/2 of the cake mixture onto the bottom of 13 x 9 inch baking pan.
  6. Bake 8 minutes.
  7. Sprinkle 1 cup of walnuts and 1/2 cup of chips over crust, top with carmel mixture, spreading to edges of pan.
  8. Top with teaspoons of remaining cake mixture, press gently into carmel mixture.
  9. Sprinkle with remaining 1/2 cup walnuts and 1/2 cup chips.
  10. Bake 18 minutes.
  11. Cool, cut into bars.
