Asparagus Cheese Strata
- 2 - 16 French baguette bread, cut into 1 cubes
- 200 g) thinly sliced prosciutto, cut into 1/4-inch julienne
- 1 pkg (200 g) Dofino Havarti Cheese with Herbs & Spices, shredded
- 1 cup (250) Tre Stelle Grated Parmesan Cheese
- 1/4 cup each (50 mL)fresh chives and parsley, washed and finely chopped
- 1 lb. (454) fresh asparagus, tough stem ends snapped off, cut into 2 pieces
- 6 lg. eggs
- 3-1/2 cup (875) milk
- 1 tbsp. (15) lemon peel, grated
- 1 tsp. each (5 mL) salt & freshly ground
- black pepper
- In a 9 x 13 baking pan that has been buttered or coated with non-stick cooking spray, add half of the bread cubes.
- Top with half the prosciutto, Havarti Cheese, Parmesan Cheese, herbs and asparagus.
- Layer remaining bread cubes on top, then layer the remaining prosciutto, Havarti Cheese, Parmesan Cheese, herbs and asparagus.
- In a medium bowl whisk together eggs, milk, lemon peel, salt, and pepper.
- Pour evenly over layered ingredients.
- Cover and chill for an hour or overnight.
- Bake for 50 minutes in a preheated 350 F (180 C) oven.
- Remove from oven, slice and serve.
- Makes 12 servings.
