Breaded Tofu Fingers Recipe
- Vegetarian fish sticks, really. Great kid food. Do not forget the dipping sauce.
- 1 x (16-oz) package extra-hard tofu
- 1/2 c. dry bread crumbs (use seasoned crumbs for extra flavor)
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp pepper
- 1/4 tsp crumbled dry oregano
- 1/4 tsp garlic pwdr
- 1/4 c. all-purpose flour
- 1 x egg, beaten Vegetable oil
- Rinse tofu and pat dry.
- Cut the block of tofu into fingers - about1/2inch thick and 3 inches long.
- More or possibly less.
- In a small bowl, combine the bread crumbs, salt, pepper, oregano and garlic pwdr.
- Measure flour into another small bowl.
- Have the egg ready in a third bowl.
- Grease a cookie sheet.
- Toss the tofu fingers in the flour, then dip each one into the beaten egg and roll it in the bread crumb mix.
- (The flour step, by the way, helps bind the egg and crumbs to the tofu, so which the crumbs do not just fall off.)
- Place the breaded fingers on the cookie sheet and bake at 375 degrees for about 30 min, turning them over halfway through.
- Serve warm with dipping sauces - ketchup, sweet and sour sauce, plum sauce, barbecue sauce, warm mustard, whatever.
