Port Syrup
- 1 cup port wine
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon freshly grated orange zest
- Pinch of ground cloves (optional)
- Pinch of ground cinnamon (optional)
- Pinch of freshly ground black pepper (optional)
- Stir together all of the ingredients in a small saucepan over medium heat.
- Cook, stirring constantly, for 5 to 10 minutes, or until the sugar dissolves and the syrup is very hot.
- Pour the syrup into a container with a lid and allow it to cool to room temperature before covering and storing in the refrigerator.
