Canadian Maple Dumplings

  1. Preheat oven to 400F (200C).
  2. Add the flour and baking powder to a bowl.
  3. Cut in the butter until resembling crumbs.
  4. Slowly add the milk, gently tossing until a dough ball forms, try not to overwork the dough, set aside.
  5. Bring the maple syrup and water to the boil in a small pot, transfer to a 13 x 9 inch glass baking dish.
  6. Drop tablespoons of the dumpling dough into the maple syrup.
  7. Bake, uncovered for about 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a dumpling comes out clean.
  8. Serve warm topped with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
