Canadian Maple Dumplings
- 2 cups flour, all-purpose
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 cup butter cold, cut into small pieces
- 3/4 cup milk
- 2 cups maple syrup
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 x whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for serving
- Preheat oven to 400F (200C).
- Add the flour and baking powder to a bowl.
- Cut in the butter until resembling crumbs.
- Slowly add the milk, gently tossing until a dough ball forms, try not to overwork the dough, set aside.
- Bring the maple syrup and water to the boil in a small pot, transfer to a 13 x 9 inch glass baking dish.
- Drop tablespoons of the dumpling dough into the maple syrup.
- Bake, uncovered for about 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a dumpling comes out clean.
- Serve warm topped with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
