Braised Beef with Noodles

  1. Brown beef cubes in saucepan until well browned.
  2. Add 1 1/2 cups water, salt, pepper, and bay leaf.
  3. Cover and cook over low heat until beef is almost tender--about 1 hour.
  4. Add onion and celery.
  5. Continue cooking until meat and vegetables are tender--about 20 minutes.
  6. Remove bay leaf.
  7. Mix flour and water until smooth.
  8. Stir into beef mixture.
  9. Cook, stirring constantly, until thickened--about 2 minutes.
  10. Serve over noodles.
