Easy Apple Turnovers (Gale Gand)
- 12 cup chopped granny smith apple (peeled)
- 14 cup applesauce
- 12 cup apple butter
- 14 cup raisins
- 18 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- flour, for rolling puff pastry
- 16 ounces frozen puff pastry, thawed
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 12 cup confectioners' sugar
- 2 teaspoons milk
- Adjust oven rack to middle position and preheat oven to 425F.
- Put chopped apple, applesauce, apple butter, raisins, and nutmeg in a small bowl and combine.
- Dust a flat work are with flour and lay out puff pastry.
- Use a rolling pin to roll sheets out into a 10x10 inch squares.
- Cut each pastry sheet into 4 5x5 inch squares.
- Use a pastry brush to brush edges of squares with beaten egg, reserve the remaining egg to brush tops of turnovers.
- Dividing the apple mixture evenly, spoon into the center of each pastry square.
- Fold the squares over diagonally, pressing the edges to enclose the filling; making sure to also press out any air.
- Press edges with the tines of a fork to seal completely.
- Place the turnovers on a baking sheet and brush tops with remaining beaten egg.
- Bake for 25 minutes.
- Remove from oven and place on a rack to cool.
- Combine sugar and milk together in a small bowl until smooth.
- Drizzle over slightly cooled turnovers.
