Cheese Toasts

• 8 slices (1/2-inch-thick) baguette
• 1 cup coarsely grated Gruyere cheese (4 ounces)

1. Heat broiler, with rack 4 inches from heat.
2. Place baguette slices on a baking sheet.
3. Divide cheese evenly among the slices, and broil until cheese is golden, 2 to 4 minutes.
