Southern Buttermilk Biscuits

  1. Preheat oven to 450F
  2. Combine dry ingredients in food processor.
  3. Cut butter into chunks and pulse processor until it resembles course meal.
  4. Add buttermilk and mix until just combined.
  5. Dough will be very wet.
  6. If you don't keep fresh buttermilk around, buy the powdered buttermilk and keep it in your fridge.
  7. It keeps a lot longer.
  8. Just follow the directions on the container.
  9. Turn the dough out onto a floured board.
  10. Gently pat (do not roll) the dough until it's 1/2 inch thick.
  11. Fold dough over about 5 times and gently press the dough down till it's 1 inch thick.
  12. Use a cutter to cut out biscuits.
  13. Gently knead scraps together to make a few more.
  14. Place biscuits on a cookie sheet and bake 10-12 minutes until golden brown.
  15. Do not overbake!
