Apples With Salted Caramel Sauce

  1. Mix half and half, butter, and salt in a small saucepan.
  2. Cook over medium heat until the butter is melted and mixture is hot, about 2 minutes.
  3. Set aside.
  4. Combine sugar and water in a large heavy saucepan.
  5. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until sugar is dissolved, about 5 minutes.
  6. Increase heat to high and bring to a boil, washing down the sides of the pan with a pastry brush dipped in cool water to dissolve any sugar crystals.
  7. Boil, without stirring, until caramel turns dark amber, about 10 minutes(keep a good eye on it).
  8. Immediately remove the pan from heat; let caramel cool 1 minute.
  9. Wearing long oven mitts to protect your arms and being careful to avoid any splatters, slowly whisk in half and half mixture, whisking until smooth.
  10. Move caramel to a small bowl.
  11. Let stand, stirring occasionally, until thickened, about 15 minutes.
  12. Serve warm with apple wedges.
  13. Enjoy!
