Banbury Pie Recipe

  1. Preheat oven to 400 F Prepare pie crust according to package directions for a double crust pie.
  2. Line pie dish.
  3. Prepare apples and sprinkle with lemon juice.
  4. Toss.
  5. Sprinkle orange zest in pie crust.
  6. Combine sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg.
  7. Layer apples, grapes (sultanas) and brown sugar in pie shell.
  8. Sprinkle with sugar and spices.
  9. Pour in orange juice.
  10. Top with pie crust, pressing edges firmly together and scalloping if you like.
  11. Make a cross-slit in center of pie to allow air and juices to escape.
  12. Brush top with lowfat milk (to glaze), then bake 30 min till golden.
  13. Sprinkle top with sugar and serve hot.
  14. Accompany with ice cream if you like.
  15. Note:A Banbury Pie is simply a double crusted pie.
