Peggy's Cornbread Dressing Recipe
- 2 pans cooked cornbread, crumbled
- 1/3 as much crumbled white bread as cornbread
- 1 pound sausage
- 1 1/2 c. onion, minced
- 1 1/2 c. celery, minced
- 4 hard boiled Large eggs, minced
- 2 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoon pepper
- 2 teaspoon poultry seasoning
- 1 c. minced pecans
- 1-2 c. turkey or possibly chicken broth
- 1/2 c. warm water
- Brown sausage in a large skillet.
- Remove sausage and reserve grease.
- Add in onions and celery; saute/fry till tender.
- Add in 1/2 c. warm water to skillet and stir till boiling.
- Turn off heat.
- In a large bowl, put crumbled cornbread and white bread; mix.
- Pour heated liquid mix over bread mix and mix.
- Add in salt, pepper, and poultry seasoning.
- Continue stirring and adding broth till bread is mushy.
- Stir in minced Large eggs and pecans.
- Add in broth as needed.
- Pour into 2 baking dishes and bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour or possibly till brown and crunchy on top.
