Beef with Broccoli
- 3/4 cups Soy Sauce
- 2 Tablespoons Brown Sugar
- 1- 1/2 Tablespoon Cornstarch
- 1/4 teaspoons Red Pepper Flakes, Additional For Sprinkling
- 1/4 teaspoons Ground Ginger
- 1 Tablespoon Garlic, Minced
- 1 whole Pound Thinly Sliced Steak
- 3 Tablespoons Olive Oil, Divided
- 1/4 whole Onion
- 2 heads Broccoli (large)
- 3 cups Jasmine Or White Rice, To Serve
- In a bowl, mix together soy sauce, brown sugar, cornstarch, red pepper flakes, ginger and garlic.
- Add sliced meat to the bowl, toss and set aside.
- Heat about 1 tablespoon oil in a heavy skillet or wok over high heat.
- Saute thinly sliced onion for about two minutes.
- Add broccoli and stir for about 2 minutes.
- Remove to a separate plate.
- Set aside.
- Allow pan to get hot again.
- Add an additional tablespoon of oil.
- Add half the meat mixture, leaving most of the marinade still in the bowl.
- Spread out meat as you add it to the pan, but do not stir until it is able to create a brown crust.
- Turn meat to the other side and cook for another 30 seconds.
- Remove to a clean plate.
- Repeat with the other half of meat, allowing the pan to get hot again first and adding the last tablespoon (or so) of olive oil.
- After turning it, add the first plateful of meat, the rest of the marinade, and the broccoli and onions.
- Stir over high heat for 30 seconds.
- Take off heat and serve immediately with rice.
- Sprinkle crushed red pepper over the top, if desired.
- Note: cooking time does not include the rice cooking time.
