South Dakota Honey Sunflower Vanilla Ice Cream
- 2 1/4 cups sugar
- 1/4 cup, plus 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 4 eggs, beaten
- 5 cups whole milk
- 4 cups whipping cream
- 2 tablespoons vanilla extract, preferably bourbon Madagascar
- 1/2 cup honey (recommended: Dakota's Best)
- 2/3 cup honey roasted sunflower seeds (recommended: Dakota's Best)
- In a large bowl, whisk together all ingredients except the sunflower seeds.
- Transfer mixture to an an ice cream machine, except for the sunflower seeds.
- Follow the ice cream machine manufacturer's instructions for making ice cream.
- When the ice cream has the consistency of pudding and the machine is no longer churning, stir in the sunflower seeds.
- Freeze the ice cream until hardened, about 4 hours.
