Brown Bread--With Leftover Crumbs of Any Kind
- 2 cups breadcrumbs or 2 cups cake crumbs or 2 cups cookie crumbs or 2 cups crumbs from doughnuts
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 cup hot water
- 34 cup molasses
- 1 cup flour
- 1 cup cornmeal
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 34 cup floured raisins
- Let sit overnight---the leftover goodies to make the crumbs and the buttermilk, till the mixture is soft; put through a seive.
- Dissolve the baking soda in the hot water and add the molasses; mix together just to blend.
- Add the rest of the ingredients and mix well.
- If more liquid is needed--used hot water a little at a time.
- Put in two greased 1-pound coffee cans and steam for 3 hours.
