Birdhouse Cake

  1. Cover bottom of 13x9-inch pan with waxed paper; spray bottom and sides of pan with cooking spray.
  2. Prepare cake batter as directed on package; blend in dry pudding mix.
  3. Pour into prepared pan.
  4. Bake as directed on package for 13x9-inch cake.
  5. Cool cake in pan 10 min.
  6. ; invert onto wire rack.
  7. Remove pan and waxed paper; cool cake completely.
  8. Cut cake as shown in Diagram 1.
  9. Arrange on tray or large platter as shown in Diagrams 2 and 3 , turning piece B onto its side so it is higher than piece A, and placing pieces C and D over pieces E and F to form raised peak of roof, trimming corners of C and D where they meet at peak.
  10. Beat butter, milk and vanilla with mixer until blended.
  11. Gradually beat in sugar until blended.
  12. Reserve 1/4 cup frosting; frost cake with remaining frosting.
  13. Sprinkle 1/2 cup coconut onto centre of birdhouse.
  14. Tint 1/2 cup of the remaining coconut with a few drops yellow food colouring; sprinkle over bottom edge of house.
  15. Tint remaining coconut with a few drops each of the red and blue food colouring; sprinkle over roof.
  16. Tint reserved frosting as desired; pipe onto cake to resemble bird.
  17. Add decorations to resemble photo.
