Old-Fashioned Chocolate Sauce
- 1/2 cup (125 mL) unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup (125 mL) granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup (125 mL) hot water
- 2 tsp (10 mL) instant coffee granules
- 1 tsp (5 mL) vanilla
- In a small saucepan, whisk together cocoa and sugar.
- Gradually whisk in water, coffee and vanilla until smooth.
- Cook over medium heat, stirring often, until glossy and thickened, about 5 minutes.
- To make hot cocoa: In a small saucepan, stir 2 tsp (10 mL) chocolate sauce into 1 cup (250 mL) lactose-free milk.
- Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently, just until it starts to bubble, about 4 minutes.
- Pour into mug and serve.
