Old-Fashioned Chocolate Sauce

  1. In a small saucepan, whisk together cocoa and sugar.
  2. Gradually whisk in water, coffee and vanilla until smooth.
  3. Cook over medium heat, stirring often, until glossy and thickened, about 5 minutes.
  4. To make hot cocoa: In a small saucepan, stir 2 tsp (10 mL) chocolate sauce into 1 cup (250 mL) lactose-free milk.
  5. Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently, just until it starts to bubble, about 4 minutes.
  6. Pour into mug and serve.
