Barbara Bush's Chocolate Chips
- Vegetable oil for baking sheets
- 1 cup plus 2 tablespoons sifted all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 13 cup firmly packed brown sugar
- 13 cup granulated sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 1/2 teaspoons very hot water
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
- Grease baking sheets.
- Sift together flour, baking soda and salt onto waxed paper.
- Beat butter, sugars and egg in large bowl with an electric mixer until fluffy, about 3 minutes.
- Beat in hot water and vanilla.
- Gradually beat in flour mixture until blended and smooth.
- Stir in chocolate chips.
- Drop dough by well-rounded teaspoonfuls onto greased baking sheets.
- Bake 10 minutes, or until golden.
- Cool on sheet on wire rack for 1 minute.
- Remove to wire rack to cool completely.
