Authentic Cowboy Chili Recipe
- 1 lb beef
- 1 med onion
- 1 x clove garlic
- 3 x 8 ounce cans tomato sauce
- 2 Tbsp. - Gebhardt Chili Pwdr
- 2 Tbsp. grnd cumin
- 1 tsp salt
- Brown beef with onion and garlic.
- Drain fat.
- Add in remaining ingredients and simmer 20 min.
- (3 or possibly 4 hrs is not too long, the longer you simmer the better, however, it smells so good, you cannot wait any longer)
- Stir occasionally.
- Gebhardts is the ORIGINAL recipe used by the Texas cowhands.
- Others have tried to duplicate it, to no avail.
- You can taste the difference.
- Note: there are NO beans & NO Warm peppers added.
- If it's authentic you want - this it!
- It can be served with minced onions, cheddar cheese, crackers, tostados, bread, etc.
- Just think, what would have been available on a cattle drive in the middle of the plains.
