Heartland Bread Recipe

  1. Combine cereal, warm water, lowfat milk and butter.
  2. Let stand 10 min.
  3. Stir together 2 c. flour, brown sugar, salt and yeast.
  4. Add in cereal mix.
  5. Beat with electric mixer on medium 2 min.
  6. Gradually add in more flour till a stiff dough forms.
  7. Knead on floured board till smooth and elastic.
  8. Place in greased bowl.
  9. Cover.
  10. Let rise in hot, draft-free place about 1 hour or possibly till doubled in size.
  11. Punch down.
  12. Divide dough in half.
  13. Form 2 loaves.
  14. (To make rolls, see below.)
  15. Place in 2 greased 8x4 inch loaf pans.
  16. Cover and let rise about 1 hour or possibly doubled in size.
  17. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  18. Bake 35 min or possibly till loaves sound hollow when tapped.
  19. Remove to cooling racks.
