Cavatappi Pomodoro

  1. Cook pasta in large saucepan as directed on package, omitting salt.
  2. Meanwhile, cook bacon in large skillet until crisp.
  3. Remove bacon from skillet, reserving 1 tsp.
  4. drippings in skillet.
  5. Drain bacon on paper towels.
  6. Add onions to reserved drippings; cook and stir on medium heat 5 min.
  7. Stir in garlic; cook 1 min.
  8. Add tomatoes, tomato paste and crushed pepper; simmer 5 to 6 min.
  9. or until thickened, stirring occasionally.
  10. Drain pasta; return to pan.
  11. Crumble bacon.
  12. Add to pasta with sauce; toss to coat.
  13. Spoon onto platter; top with cheese and basil.
