Flavored Herring Roe

  1. Immerse the salted herring roe in lightly salted water for 6-8 hours to remove the salt.
  2. (Change out the salt water every 2-3 hours)
  3. While the herring roe are soaking, make the marinade.
  4. Add all of the ingredients into a pot and boil.
  5. Then let it cool.
  6. Carefully peel off the thin outer skin of the herring roe.
  7. It's easy to do if you use a paper towel.
  8. Place the herring roe into a plastic container, add the marinade, and let soak for half a day to one night.
  9. Wrap the dried bonito flakes in a paper towel.
  10. Soaking them together will increase the flavor.
