French Meat Pies
- 4 lb. ground beef
- 2 1/2 lb. ground pork
- 2 to 3 medium size onions, chopped
- salt and pepper to taste
- poultry seasoning to taste
- 1 pkg. (1 sleeve) Premium saltine crackers
- 8 pie crusts (4 bottom and 4 top crusts)
- Place beef, pork, onion, salt and pepper in a deep pan.
- Add water to cover meat.
- Bring to a boil.
- Cover and lower heat to simmer.
- Continue cooking for about 6 hours, making sure that there is always just enough water to cover the meat.
- After 6 hours, season to taste.
- Crush crackers and add to the meat, a little at a time, until thickened.
- Prepare pie crusts (enough for 4 pie tins). Fill with meat mixture and add top crust.
- Bake at 325u0b0 until top crust is golden brown.
- Makes 4 large pies.
- Recipe may be cut in half.
