Gateau au Chocolat In a Frying Pan
- 40 grams Dark chocolate
- 20 grams Butter
- 40 grams Sugar
- 1 Egg
- 30 grams Pancake mix
- 1 tbsp Pure cocoa powder
- 1 Parchment paper
- 1 tbsp Water (added while cooking)
- 1 Powdered sugar or cocoa powder
- Line a frying pan with parchment paper.
- Fold it to fit the inside edges.
- Cut the parchment paper so it doesn't overlap on the edges.
- (Make sure it doesn't hang over the edges of the frying pan.)
- Put the butter and chopped chocolate in a heatproof container.
- Microwave for 1 minute at 600W to melt.
- Stir the chocolate mixture with a whisk and then add the sugar, egg, pancake mix and pure cocoa powder.
- Mix well.
- If you like sweeter cake, use 40 g of sugar.
- Pour the batter from Step 4 into the prepared frying pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
- (The batter will spread out as it heats.)
- Cover the pan with a lid and cook for 8 minutes over the lowest possible heat, keeping an eye on it.
- (Cook until the surface is covered with air holes.)
- Hold up the edge of the parchment paper with chopsticks, and pour in 1 tablespoon of water between the paper and the frying pan in two separate places.
- Warning: The water will immediately turn to hot steam, so be careful not to get burned.
- Cover the frying pan with a lid right away, and cook for 90 seconds-2 minutes, until you can no longer hear the steam sizzling.
- Turn off the heat and let it sit with the lid on for 2 minutes.
- Holding the edges of the parchment paper, take the gateau chocolat out of the frying pan and cool it on a plate.
- (The cooked cake will be about 2 cm high.)
- Peel off the parchment paper when the gateau chocolat is cool.
- Dust with powdered sugar, using a tea strainer.
- (Cocoa powder is also OK)
- This shows the size of the flame, and how far it is from the bottom of the frying pan.
- ( The flame is not touching the pan directly.)
- Please note that the powdered sugar on top will turn transparent over time, as it dissolves.
