Basic Bread Recipe

  1. Dissolve yeast.
  2. Add in lowfat milk, sugar, salt, shortening and half the flour; mix till smooth.
  3. Fold in the rest of the flour till dough is easy to handle.
  4. Knead on floured surface till smooth, 10 min should do it.
  5. Put in greased bowl, cover with dish towel, and let it rise about an hour, till double.
  6. Divide dough in half, shape into loaves, place in greased loaf pans, brush with butter, and let rise another hour.
  7. Bake at 425 degrees about 25 to 30 min, till brown.
  8. To test for doneness, tap to see if they sound hollow.
  9. Brush with butter if desired.
  10. Yield: 2 loaves.
