Homemade Applesauce
- 4 granny smith apples, peeled, cored, cut into 1/2-inch slices
- 4 golden delicious apples, peeled, cored, cut into 1/2-inch slices
- 1 cup apple cider or 1 cup juice
- 1 lemon, juiced
- 14 cup light brown sugar
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 14 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 dash nutmeg
- Add apples, apple cider, lemon juice, sugar, cinnamon sticks and a dash of nutmeg to a large saucepan.
- Bring to a boil, cover with a lid and reduce to a simmer.
- Let cook for 15 minutes or until apples are tender.
- Remove cinnamon sticks and discard.
- Mash with a potato masher, and stir in the 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon and dash of nutmeg.
- Transfer to a serving dish and serve warm.
