Kielbasa, onion, and apples oh my!

  1. In oil over medium heat, sear kielbasa.
  2. When browned, remove from pan.
  3. Lower heat melt butter and caramelize onions.
  4. About 20 minutes.
  5. Put penne on to boil.
  6. After onions have caramelized golden brown, add broth and apples and bring to a boil.
  7. Simmer for about 12 minutes.
  8. Pasta should be ready.
  9. Drain and reserve.
  10. Slice kielbasa to desired size (I like 1/4 inch) and add to simmering mixture.
  11. Simmer until slightly thickened.
  12. Once reduced to desired thickness, add pasta, stir and serve.
  13. Top with Parmesan to taste.
  14. Season as desired.
  15. I found the kielbasa and Parmesan added enough salt for me.
  16. Alter onion and apple ratio if desired.
  17. The result is a mellow but sweet comforting mixture.
  18. Tastes even better the next day.
